Over the past 90 years the House of the Temple Library has collected thousands of copies of The New Age Magazine and the Scottish Rite Journal from every month in every year, and now we’d like to share them with you.

Wouldn’t you like to know what happened in the organization during the month you were born? Or how about the month you joined the Scottish Rite, Blue Lodge, or the York Rite? You can order full sets (an entire year) or individual issues (specific months) today! All we ask is that you make a donation to help support the House of the Temple Library.

Originally entitled The New Age Magazine, the Scottish Rite Journal was first published in 1903. The name, The New Age was suggested to Grand Commander George Moore by the ritual of the degree of the 18°, Rose Croix, and it was copyrighted in 1904. The magazine, with its bright yellow cover, discussed literature, science, philosophy, commerce, social, and fraternal life. One of the original intentions was to reach “cultured and intelligent readers who were not members of the Masonic fraternity.” The name of the magazine was changed to the Scottish Rite Journal in 1989 during the Biennial Session. Following the 2003 session its size increased, and it became bimonthly.

Nicholas Miller, one of the Supreme Council Interns, has worked with library staff members to organize each of the magazines to prepare them for distribution for this fundraiser. Miller is a junior at George Washington University, where he is pursuing a bachelors degree in business administration with concentrations in marketing and management information systems. In addition to his regular duties as a host for special events and as a tour guide for the museum, Miller has applied his skills as a business major to organize a special fundraiser which would benefit the historic House of the Temple Library.
